The bathroom is one of the most popular rooms to remodel in American households and with this kind of consumer demand there are literally thousands of bathroom remodeling solutions on the market. Unfortunately though... They are not all created equal and some are down right bad ideas to install into any home.
You however, are on this website because you've found us in a search engine, were referred by a friend or saw our booth at one of the many homeshows we attend. At BathCrafters we believe you deserve to have a beautiful bathroom and hopefully this article will help offer some guidance before you make your remodeling decision.
Of all the rooms to remodel in a home the bathroom is the most popular but you probably already know if we told you that it's also one of the most difficult rooms to remodel, properly. Constantly exposed to a moisture rich environment bathrooms that were poorly constructed are prone to problems such as mold and mildew growth, rotten floors (from leaky shower pans) and other water related problems that are usually expensive to repair.
It takes intricate industry proven technical knowledge of how (and where) water accumulates in a bathroom to fully understand how to protect the bathroom from water's damaging properties. If your bathroom hasn't been remodeled with the care and attention it needs... You can expect problems!
So What Are Your Choices When Remodeling Your Bathroom?
Bathroom remodeling projects can vary from the $500 DIY home depot special to a $50,000+ custom built bathroom you'd expect to find in a magazine or see on a home improvement TV show. For many people though, doing it yourself is not an option nor is the $50,000 remodel. For those of us in between but still looking for a solution that looks great and offers excellent value we are left with a few choices.
Conventional Remodeling
With a conventional bathroom remodel you'll get a beautiful bathroom (if you've chosen a great contractor) but it might just take a few weeks to get it. During that time you won't be using your bathroom and you'll be welcoming the contractor and his crew into your home everyday as they work on the project. If you're looking for a total bathroom makeover with new heated tile floors and natural stone wall surround and you have a $15,000 - $30,000 budget then conventional remodeling to get your dream bathroom might be the route for you.
Bathtub and Shower Remodeling
With a bathtub or shower remodel instead of remodeling the entire bathroom we only remodel the shower or the tub or both. Typically a bathtub or shower can be remodeled using a product called a shower or bathtub liner. They have been around for over 30 years and started as a way to lower costs for hotels when they needed to be updated. Mass produced in large quantities and installed by very inexperienced cheap labor, it was these early iterations of shower and bath liners that have given these products a very undeserved bad name amongst homeowners looking to remodel.
What Were Some Of The Problems?

This Mold and Water Damage Was Behind a Tile Surround.
Poor quality bathtub and shower liners might not fit correctly into your space. This can cause big problems as water and moisture seep into the cracks between your old tub and the liner. This can cause mold, mildew and rotten walls or floors. Often an installer will overcome a poor fit by just using more silicone or caulking. This just masks an existing problem and the patchwork repair will eventually fail or need to be repaired often.
Beware Of The "One Day" Installation Process
Many of our competitors in the bath and shower remodeling industry using liners will really play up the speed of their installations. Often a complete shower or tub remodel is promised to be finished for the customer in just one day of working on the project. Do you really think speeding through the installation process as fast as someone can will really lead to the highest quality of job? It won't.
At BathCrafters we're still fairly quick with our bathroom remodeling projects but we spread our installations out over 2 days to give us the time required to pay careful attention to your project, the fit and the final finish of your shower or tub. We want it to look great and perform great for many, many years or we can't put our name behind it.
What Makes A Great Shower or Tub Liner?
The best quality bath and shower liners are made with durable non-porous acrylics and have their own proprietary joining system to allow for a crevice free installation from floor to ceiling.
The lack of crevises makes for a water tight and mold inhibited environment. This stops mold and mildew growth in it's tracks. The non-porous acrylic surface won't stain or become discolored and is very easy to simply wipe clean.
So in short you want:
- A Strong Acrylic Surface (our cross linked acrylic is 4x harder than standard acrylic)
- Thick and Durable so it doesn't crack. (our acrylic is 2x thicker than standard acrylic)
- No Crevices or Cracks in your installation where water can seep through. (our system is crevice free)
- An Perfect Fitting Liner. (we have over 800 tub molds and can custom make showers)
- An Expert Installation (not unskilled labor)
